Today

The other day I was in an argument

And I didn’t handle it as I should

I made mistakes with my actions

My words brought nothing good

I was so caught up with frustration

That I didn’t stop to think

But later, when I had calmed down…

I realized I my mistakes

I recognized what I had done wrong

…but I thought of something else, too

What if Jesus had come right then

What if Jesus had stepped in the room?

What if he had returned at last

Only to find me arguing

What if he had come back for me

Only to find me abandoning?

What if he found me like I was right then

…like what I am right now…

Absorbed in this world and forgetting his truth

Forgetting to keep my vows

What if my Lord came today

And didn’t find me waiting

What if my God came back today

And didn’t find me anticipating?

What if my heart stopped beating today

And I knelt before his Throne

Would I be proud of how I had lived

The last day in my earthly home?

Oh friends, I beg you – don’t forget!

Your time could come any day

Live as you want your God to find you

Don’t forget and drift astray

Jesus, help me remember

The treasure I have in You

Help me to look beyond this earth

Bind my heart and keep me true

For if I should die before I wake,

Or if you should come for me

I want to be found longing for you…

Living for you, my King
